KANSAS CITY, KS—The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has officially rescinded the Boil Water Advisory for the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) water supply system. The advisory was issued only to customers in the following area: Freeman Ave south to Riverview, 9th Street west to 18th Street.
The advisory was issued as a precaution following a waterline break that caused a pressure loss in a localized distribution system area.
After comprehensive testing at a certified laboratory, the KDHE has confirmed that:
- There is no evidence of bacterial contamination in the water supply.
- All conditions that may have posed a potential risk of contamination are resolved.
To ensure the safety of your water after the advisory is lifted, please follow these steps:
- Flush your plumbing: Run cold water from all faucets for at least 5 minutes.
- Discard ice: If you have an automatic ice maker, throw away the first batch of ice and clean the ice bin.
- Replace or clean filters: Replace any water filters in faucets, refrigerators, or appliances following the manufacturer's instructions.
If you have additional questions, please get in touch with BPU Customer Service at 913-573-9190 or KDHE at 785-296-5514.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation in resolving this issue.
