Wyandotte County Lake Celebrates Eagle Days, Jan 18-19

(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — The 19th annual Eagle Days at Wyandotte County Lake Park is set to take place January 18-19, 2020. Eagle Days is a free event open to visitors of all ages to view birds and other wildlife in their natural environment this winter.

Two locations in Wyandotte County Lake Park offer opportunities to experience indoor nature programs and outdoor bird-viewing areas. The Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library and James P. Davis Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. A different variety of live birds will be featured in exhibits at each location in addition to fun kid's activities.

The weekend activities include educational programs courtesy of Operation Wildlife volunteers, a coloring contest and craft areas for kids, and binocular checkout for viewing birds along the lake. The Operation Wildlife organization rescues and rehabilitates injured animals. The birds that cannot be released back into the wild are featured in the Eagle Days educational programs.

Outdoor spotting scopes will help guests get a better view of the birds and wildlife around the lake. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras for optimal viewing and photo opportunities. Those planning to attend can print and download a map of the lake here.

Eagle Days at Wyandotte County Lake is offered in partnership with Operation Wildlife, the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library; Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU); the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library; Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools; and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas Parks & Recreation.
