BPU Keeping Utility Workers Safe; Keeping the Community Safe - Customers asked not to approach field workers

(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) electric and water field teams continue to work full schedules to ensure reliable and safe electricity and water is flowing in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask customers to not approach them if they are working in your area. Questions about the work being performed may be directed to BPU Public Affairs at PublicAffairs@bpu.com or 913-573-9173.

“BPU linemen and water distribution crews work to ensure that reliable power and safe water is supplied to our customers, and we are grateful for the work they’re doing, especially in these challenging times,” said Bill Johnson, BPU General Manager. “Our top priority is the safety of our employees and our customers, so we ask that you be aware of our employees out working and maintain a safe distance from them as they do their jobs”.

Team schedules have been staggered and structured to limit the number of personal interactions between teams and help reduce the opportunity of potential spreading of the virus. The teams are taking extra precautions to keep their work equipment and facilities safe by frequently cleaning and disinfecting the areas, materials and equipment used to perform necessary duties.

BPU will use its Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to notify customers when water will be turned off for repairs in the area. It is critical that customers make sure BPU has their current phone number and if they have changed it, they need to notify BPU Customer Service at 913-573-9190.
