General Policies Definitions
The following terms shall have the following meanings when used in these Policies, unless otherwise
stated:
The twelve calendar month fiscal year of KCBPU; that is, from January 1 and concluding December 31
of the same year.
An interval between successive meter reading dates, as established by the KCBPU.
A single roofed or walled structure, which stands alone or which is cut off from adjoining structures
by firewalls, with all openings therein protected by approved fire doors. Separate structures on the
same tract of land or on adjoining fire doors. Separate structures are occupied by the customer for
one single undertaking.
The fee charged to the customer any time their service is turned on or off. This typically occurs when
a customer establishes a new account.
Any person, partnership, company, public or private corporation, estate trust, governmental agency
or legal entity applying for and/or using electric and/or water service supplied by KCBPU at one
location under one rate schedule.
Fee charged for customer payment checks returned by a bank.
Any unauthorized action taken by anyone that has the effect of circumvention or alteration of the
accuracy of any billing meter and/or associated devices, whether accidental, purposeful, fraudulent
or otherwise.
A tower supporting water, electric, or communications facilities and is utilized by KCBPU.
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities acting through its duly elected members, employees, or
agents within the scope of their duties and responsibilities.
Fee charged to customer for non-payment of bill by the due date.
Any commercial, industrial, or other type of customer that is not a residential customer.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- Medium DG Facility:
A DG Facility rated to generate greater than or equal to 70 kVA three phase
but less than 4,000 kVA three phase, at the rated voltage at the Point of Common Coupling.
- Large DG Facility:
A DG Facility rated to generate greater than or equal to 4,000 kVA three phase
at the rated voltage at the Point of Common Coupling.
Any individual, firm, joint venture, partnership, corporation, association, municipality or governmental unit
which contracts to perform any function or activity upon any land, building, highway or other premises in
proximity to an overhead line.
The party, who makes a formal request and/or executes an agreement with KCBPU, acting on their own behalf
and/or as duly authorized agent of the customer.
All buildings, apparatus or portions thereof occupied or operated by the owner or lessee and situated on a
parcel of land undivided by a common area or public highway, street or railway.
Facilities including pumps and other equipment that are utilized KCBPU to pump fluids from one location to
another.
Fee charged to reconnect customer after being disconnected for non-payment of bill or other violations.
Any customer whose service supplies their home or place of living.
All areas in which KCBPU is authorized by the Kansas State Legislature to supply electric and/or
water service.
Any building or other constructed object that is owned by KCBPU.
