BPU is a publicly owned, municipal utility company. We are a not-for-profit utility, engaged in a partnership with the community for power and water distributed throughout our service area. BPU operates the utility as a community enterprise and allows citizens to take part in the process. BPU rates are competitive and viable reflecting the public service nature of our mission. This is how we have operated for more than 100 years.
As a public utility, BPU embraces the power of community:
Community Ownership
We are measured by how much money stays in the community and not by profits for private stockholders.
Local Leadership
Business decisions are made by local BPU management and policy issues are governed by a locally elected board. All board meetings are open to the public.
Dependability
BPU staff members care because we work and live here in the community. We respond quickly to community needs and emergencies. BPU has received numerous recognitions and awards for safety and reliability, social responsibility and environmental stewardship, and fiscal transparency.
Dedicated to Community
We’re committed to providing dependable electricity and clean water and investing in the community through charitable initiatives.
