(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is taking time to
promote national Energy Efficiency Day to its customers and the community on
October 4, 2023. This coordinated, nationwide effort is intended to showcase the
benefits of energy efficiency, highlight its ability to help meet our nation’s energy
needs, assist customers by saving on utility costs, and reduce pollution.
The educational movement is supported by a national network of companies,
government agencies, advocacy groups, and utilities – including BPU. Reducing the
energy used by homes and businesses benefits everyone – especially energy customers.
The average household saves almost $500 annually due to efficiency standards that
apply to new appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and water heaters, alone.
BPU is a designated Smart Energy Provider (SEP), recognized for demonstrating a
commitment to and proficiency in energy efficiency, distributed generation, and
environmental initiatives that support the goal of providing safe, reliable, low-cost,
and sustainable electric service. The utility promotes numerous programs and efforts
geared toward efficiency and conservation including Home Energy Audits/Assessments
and Weatherization Assistance Programs, among other things. BPU has also been a member of
Heartland Utilities for Energy Efficiency (HUEE) since 2002 – one of the
only local utility collaboratives in the nation working together on residential energy-efficiency issues.
