BPU Looks to Lease or Sell Former Facilities
(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is continuing to make progress towards its sustainability goals and as a result, recognizes the need to address its former generating facilities and properties.
The Kaw and Quindaro generating facilities and Quindaro water treatment plant were instrumental in providing reliable and affordable power and water to the community during their operations.
However, as BPU aims to continue to diversify its portfolio with clean energy sources, the utility has an obligation to minimize any negative impact and maximize the recovery and reuse of these facilities for the benefit of the customers it serves.
To this end, on September 21st, 2023, BPU issued a Request for proposals (RFP) inviting interested parties to lease or purchase the former Kaw generating plant site and a designated area of the Quindaro generation and water treatment plant site. The BPU is hopeful that these properties can be repurposed to continue bringing benefits to the community.
If anyone is interested in submitting a proposal for one or both of these locations, please visit https://network.demandstar.com and email Purchasing@bpu.com for any questions.
The information can also be found in the next publication of the Wyandotte Echo on Thursday, September 28.
