Half of retail electricity sales in 2025 came from carbon-free sources. BPU has one of the most diverse generation portfolios in the region, with plans to add an additional 96.4 MW of solar and battery storage.

We own and maintain the line that feeds your meter.
Public right-of-way trees
Scheduled cycle trimming in the right-of-way, plus emergency trimming on private property when needed for safety.
Outage response
Crews dispatched 24/7 to restore power as quickly as possible.
Line Drop Service
We can safely lower the service line for a small fee, call 913-573-9535.
You handle
Everything beyond the service line and meter
BPU maintains the service line and meter, everything beyond that is the property owner’s responsibility.
Report objects on lines
If you see anything caught on a line or pole, call our outage line.
Stay clear of power lines
Never touch lines or poles with your body or any object.

keeps the lights on, and we want to keep you safe along the way.

Scheduled tree maintenance.
BPU trims trees in the public right-of-way on a scheduled growth cycle to help avoid service interruptions.

We will give you a call and leave a door hanger so you know it’s coming.
Debris removal included
Our contractors are responsible for tree debris removal once cycle maintenance trimming is complete.

Tree caused an outage?
Trees and limbs must be safely cleared from power lines and poles before power can be restored. Always call before trimming around any power line, never approach a downed line yourself.
