Important Billing Information
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the new Community Utility Bill increase my monthly payment?
The new design itself does not mean your payment will increase. The new bill is being designed to make your charges easier to understand. The change focuses on how we organize and present the information on your bill. Your total bill may still vary based on your utility usage and applicable charges.
Are my utility rates or service charges changing?
No. The new Community Utility Bill does not change your utility rates or service charges. The new design simply organizes your existing billing information in a clearer, easier-to-understand format so you can better see what you’re paying for.
Why is the community utility bill changing?
The community utility bill design is changing to make it clearer and easier to understand. The new layout will help you find important information, such as the amount you owe, your due date, your utility usage, and what you’re paying for. It will also make it easier to see which charges come from BPU and which come from the Unified Government (UG).
When will I start receiving the new bill?
The new Community Utility Bill will begin going out to customers on November 2, 2026. Customers will begin seeing the updated design as we send out the new bills.
What is changing on the new bill?
The new bill will have a simpler, easier-to-read design. The printed statement will go from about four pages to one (front and back), with important information easier to find. You’ll see your amount due, due date, electric and water usage history, a summary of your charges, and clearer details showing which services are provided by BPU and which are provided by UG.
Why is my bill going from about four pages to one?
The new bill is designed to use space more efficiently and make important information easier to find. Some detailed explanations and definitions will be available online instead of being printed on every bill.
Is any information being removed from my bill?
No important billing details are being taken away. The new bill organizes information differently to make it easier to read. Expanded explanations and definitions will move online, where you can find them whenever you need them.
Why are BPU and UG charges being shown differently?
Your bill already includes services from both BPU and the Unified Government. The new design makes it easier to see which organization provides each service and where each charge comes from.
BPU provides electric and water services. UG provides wastewater, stormwater, trash, and recycling services. Showing these services more clearly can help you better understand your bill.
How can I tell which charges are from BPU and which are from UG?
The new bill will clearly separate and identify BPU and UG services and charges.
- BPU: Electric and water services.
- Unified Government (UG): Wastewater, stormwater, trash, and recycling services.
You’ll also find detailed breakdowns of BPU and UG charges on the back of your bill.
Where can I find a breakdown of all the charges on my bill?
The first page of your bill will include a summary of your charges, helping you see the main details at a glance. The back of the page will provide more detailed information about BPU charges, UG charges, meter information, and other applicable charges, taxes, and fees.
Who should I contact if I have a question about a specific charge?
If you have a question about a charge on your bill, contact the organization responsible for that service.
